What is a Sick House?
A Sick House is a home that makes at least one person living in it sick - either because of where it is, or because of something that's in it.

How do I know if my house is sick?
Usually you know because whenever you spend a few days away from home you feel better. Some people feel that they sleep better, some find their sensitivities less troubling, and some find that their symptoms are less severe.

Can a sick house be cured?
Most of the time a sick house can be cured quite easily and inexpensively. Very few are incurable.

What is the Sick House approach to curing sick homes?
The intellect and the body see their surroundings very differently - yet most spaces are created to satisfy a solely intellectual sense of beauty, safety, and luxury. The sick house approach looks at the surroundings from the body’s perspective – adjusting it to satisfy the body’s sense of safety and comfort. The approach:

  • targets the noise, wireless, light, electricity, chemicals and air pollutants that interfere with melatonin and cortisol – the most environmentally sensitive hormones.
  • exploits the surroundings to stabilize melatonin and cortisol – ultimately stabilizing other hormones on the ‘hormone mobile’, and reducing the symptoms their instability provokes.
  • focuses on the bedroom as a small, manageable space where the majority of healing takes place during sleep.
  • provides a simple, cheap, non-invasive avenue to better health
  • is available in book, workbook and workshop formats
